I am still buzzing from a truly captivating moment during my student Argie Gayona's recent solo recital at Sounds Kradle! Among many wonderful pieces, Argie sang a delightful aria "Art is Calling for Me" from Victor Herbert's charming opera, The Enchantress.
In this aria, the princess declares her undeniable passion for the stage, revealing that art is calling for her, a destiny far more appealing than any royal title. Argie's performance beautifully captured this sentiment, showcasing her expressiveness and vocal prowess. It was a joy to witness her embody the character's desire to trade a crown for a career in opera!

My student, tenor Aceji Martinez, moved the audience at his recent solo recital at Sounds Kradle with his heartfelt rendition of "Pakiusap" by National Artist for Music Nicanor Abelardo.
It is truly inspiring to witness Aceji's growth as a singer. Just four years ago, his vocal journey began, and as many voice teachers can attest, the tenor voice can be one of the most challenging to train and develop. Yet, Aceji's dedication and hard work have propelled him to achieve remarkable progress in a relatively short time. His performance of "Pakiusap" was a beautiful testament to his dedication and blossoming talent.

This kundiman by National Artist for Music Francisco Santiago is a classic Filipino art song—and a bold choice for someone like Angelica, who is naturally very shy. Part of our journey together at Sing Manila has been helping her step out of her shell and into her voice. It’s still a work in progress, but she’s already made leaps and bounds.
Character and personality shape how we sing. They influence how we approach music, how we connect with a piece, and how we use our voices. And when you’re shy, singing—especially opera or classical music—can feel like a mountain to climb. But the truth is: one cannot be shy and be an opera singer. Or at least, one must let go—or pretend to.
That’s part of the work we do here at Sing Manila. Voice training is not just about the notes—it’s about unlocking the whole person behind the sound. Ready to find your voice? Come sing with us. Enroll now!
Watching Jeanna perform Georges Bizet’s “Ouvre ton cœur” was nothing short of inspiring. Known around the city for her heartfelt gigs and soulful busking sessions, Jeanna is a seasoned singer-songwriter whose voice has long resonated with passersby and intimate crowds alike. Her artistry has always been raw, honest, and deeply personal—perfect for the contemporary scene she thrives in.
But transitioning into classical singing wasn’t easy. The vocal technique required for operatic pieces like Bizet’s was a whole new world for her. As a contemporary artist, Jeanna was used to singing with a microphone, where the sound can be more manufactured and shaped for amplification. In contrast, classical singing—ironically—demands a technique that’s much more connected to natural speech, raw—even primal—requiring her to unlearn certain habits and build a new vocal foundation. It was a challenge that took time, patience, and serious dedication.
Once she found her footing in the classical style of singing, her progress took off like wildfire. Her rendition of “Ouvre ton cœur” now carries both the emotional depth of her roots and the refined clarity of her newly trained voice. It’s a joy to witness her evolution—and this is only the beginning.
Want to start your own vocal journey? Whether you're a gigging musician or just discovering your voice, Sing Manila welcomes you. Enroll now and find your unique sound—on any stage.
